This morning I was reminded of something that is in the Bible. Often termed "the love chapter" (and mercilessly recited at "religious" weddings) 1 Corinthians 13 had seemed to have lost its meaning to me until now.
"If I speak... but have not love, I am a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal." I Corinthians 13:1 (New International Version)
Clanging cymbals, eh? This mental image came to mind:
Do you know a Chim-Chim who noisily and hatefully yammers away?! I know I do... Several! They make me want to turn off my mental hearing aid.
What should our response should be?
Patience, kindness... no envy or pride. Love doesn't strut, doesn't force, isn't always me first, doesn't fly off the handle, doesn't keep score, doesn't revel when others grovel. Love loves truth, always trusts, looks for the best, never looks back and keeps moving forward (check out 1 Corinthians 13:4-8)
So which do you chose?
Don't be a Chim-Chim.
